  1. The Four Last Things: Reflections on Death, Judgment, Heaven & Hell

How will we face the end? What can we know from the lives of saints and sages - sinners, too - that will illumine the mysteries surrounding our lives? "Nothing is more certain than death," declares St. Anselm, "nothing more uncertain than its hour." A lively interest in death and the life to come is necessary to the maintenance of our identity as Christians. Faced with the inevitability of death, we all share that deep and persisting need to know what comes after. Professor Martin identifies the Last Things each of us is destined to face - namely, Death, Judgment, Heaven, and Hell - reviewing them in the context of Christian hope, which is the virtue most necessary to the happy outcome of our journey home to God.

You'll be able to appreciate his desire for women to embrace their true dignity and identity as daughters of the King of Kings. Get the real story about women and the Catholic Church - Teresa Tomeo presents the facts, fictions, and timeless truths about the love of Christ and his Church for all women.

  • The Secret Book of John: Gnostic Lies about God, Creation, and Procreation

In a way, these novels and movies are right. The Catholic Church did suppress and constrain the publication of these so-called "gospels." And with good reason. The Gnostic writings were circulated by pseudo-Christian sects who had broken communion with the Church. Many Gnostic texts claim to be eye-witness accounts of the apostles or secret divine messages which expand on Christ's public revelation. All of the Gnostic texts contain elements of heresy.

In addition to the doctrinal and theological history of the Catholic faith, it is essential that we add the history of Christian spirituality - namely, the very way that Christians have made their personal response to the God who reveals Himself to His people through Jesus Christ. This course surveys important spiritual movements, the rich diversity of spiritual insight that has marked the history of Christianity starting from the early Desert Fathers, the founding of the great religious orders, Christian mysticism, 19th and 20th century Catholic spiritual contributions, and more. In taking a look at the history of Christian spirituality in this way, one ultimately comes to a deeper understanding of man’s proper relation to God, and how he ought to respond to God’s love.
